People have some fantastic theories about this, it's
been great reading them. Snape's hair seems significant, virtually
every time he is described by a character or in the narrative it's
mentioned. Is JKR trying to tell us something about the character
of Snape, that he doesn't take very good care of himself? Maybe
she's trying to say, 'He's got low self-esteem, he just doesn't
think he's worth making the effort over.'
Or maybe he does wash it, but it just doesn't get rid of the
grease. I reckon he's in need of that range of Gilderoy Lockhart
hair care products! :-)
