Hello!  I think this is definitely something to consider.  However, 
I imagine the clue is something much more subtle than that-- a word, 
a thought, something he just walks by in passing.  For example, I've 
often wondered about some of the items mentioned in the Dark Arts 
shop in Chapter Four of CoS.  

I also think that the fact Harry discovers that Lucius Malfoy is 
hanging on to a bunch of Voldemort's old stuff will resurface and 
become quite important.  Sure, it marks Lucius as a prime supporter 
of Voldemort and is highly important to CoS in the end, but I would 
be surprised if it didn't also turn out to be one of those "clues" 
that ends up more important in later books.
