There is a huge difference in acknowledging the anniversary of your 
parents' deaths and having a morbid preoccupation with it.  I'm not 
even remotely suggesting the latter.  

Harry only found out the truth of his parents' deaths at age 11.  He 
couldn't really acknowldge the anniversary (or really, even the fact 
of) of their deaths while at the Dursleys. It just seems to me like 
he would, at some point, think about them on that day.
