How VM knew - Snape's value

I've been thinking about how Lord VM knew

1. Enough about present day Sirius to make a believable vision in the 
DOM 
2. How VM knew that Sirius meant that much to Harry in the first place

Now, some of this information could have come from Wormtail in the 
SS, but Wormtail wouldn't know that Harry and Sirius had developed 
any type of relationship.  Some may believe that this knowledge could 
come from VM mind link with Harry, but we really have no evidence 
that VM is able to randomly poke around in Harry's memories. 

I think that it is likely a piece of information Snape was able to 
offer the DEs to restore his position. Kind of a "hey, I've got some 
information on how to get to the Potter brat" thing. In theory, from 
DD's point of view this would be a relatively harmless piece of 
information for VM to have. After all, in theory Sirius is well 
hidden and quite capable of protecting himself, at least more so then 
other likely targets such as Ginny or Hermione.
