How VM knew - Snape's value

I think the first question is easily answered by saying that Voldy 
was in contact w/ the Malfoys, and Narcissa is a Black.  Also, 
Sirius's photograph was circulated all over the place when he first 
escaped from Azkaban.

The second question was answered by DD in his Big Talk with Harry.  
It was Kreacher who, though forbidden to hand out details about 
Order doings, WAS able to let Narcissa Malfoy know that Sirius meant 
more to Harry than anyone else.  

"...--but Kreacher's information made him realize that the one 
person whom you would go to any lengths to rescue was Sirius Black"  
[US hardback, 831].

I just don't think Snape was necessary for either of these pieces of 
info to have gotten to Voldy.
