Yuck, you just reminded me of a schoolmate of mine. He didn't suffer 
from allergies, he just didn't like to wipe his nose when he had a 
cold. Everybody made nasty remarks about him. Even is mom used to 
tell him that his fiancee would tell him "my dear, please, whipe 
your nose before we kiss? (actually, he got rid of this habit around 
16-17, so his mom was probably right ;o).

Anyway, if the Snivellus nickname comes from this, it does paint a 
very negative image of Snape (at least to me)
