Others postulate that Snape believes that only by rescuing him could
James save Lupin, Sirius and DD from a whole load of trouble. Only
by rescuing Snape could the presence of a werewolf in the school
be hushed up. And it was hushed up. No known punishment for Sirius
and Snape was told to keep his mouth shut.
Snape was the means to an end. If Snape gets injured the solids
hit the rotating air circulator.
That being so, why should Snape feel gratitude if James's thoughts
were centred on others?
