Yes, but that presupposes that Voldemort "selected" Harry. How do we 
now that he didn't decide to attack them both? By chance, he chose 
Harry first, fired off an Avadra Kedavra at him and "pow, splat, 
arggh"... the rest is history.

Having placed a feline centrally among the avians, retires to a 
discreet spot to watch developments.
