Umbridge's fall benefits Voldemort because it is part of a chain of
events that sends Harry to the Ministry to retrieve the prophecy. 
Entering the forest -> encountering the centaurs -> being rescued by
Grawp -> attracting the thestrals because of Grawp's blood. It is
ironic that Hermione makes up a story about retrieving the "weapon" to
lure Umbridge into the forest because that's exactly what they end up
doing.
