And/or because she is familiar enough with where Snape is coming from 
to feel some sympathy for him (which she doesn't feel for Umbridge, 
Trelawney, and Lockhart). She must have been at Hogwarts throughout 
Snape's career there, both as a student and as a professor, and even 
if she wasn't close to him personally, you can, as Yogi Berra said, 
observe a lot just by watching.
