Maybe it wasn't LV that cause the dry bite, but Harry.  Maybe Harry 
sresence was just enough t keep the snake from killing Arthur.  Maybe 
Harry saved Arthur not just by alerting Dumbledore, but also by 
preventing a venomous attack - maybe the little bit of venom they 
speak of at the hospital was residual.
