I do believe he has remorse of what he's done, he
feels so bad about it that he's helping the other side
and putting his life on the line. Admirable if you ask
me.

If Snape is a spy then he is also a traitor. It's also hard 
for me to feel sympathy or admiration for an ex-killer--especially 
since he didn't do any time for his crimes, but that's just me. Then 
again teaching children may be, for Snape, worse than a dementors 
kiss.
