I partially agree with you, people should pay for their crimes, but 
there are other ways to pay back your debt to society, and that's 
what I believe Snape is doing, he's spying for the order, he's 
teaching the future generations, he's trying to keep Harry safe... 
This is to me a way for paying for his crimes whatever they may have 
been.
