I'm not sure what you mean. Snape's werewolf essay was 
obviously important to the plot and, though we didn't know it at 
the time, connected to Lupin. Lupin's vampire essay may be 
completely unconnected to anything...but we are hardly in a 
position to say so for certain.

Um, if you were trying to keep anyone from finding out that you 
were a vampire, you'd need to stay away from mirrors, especially 
nice big ones mounted in public places. And if you needed to 
have a reflection in order to use certain magical devices, then 
they wouldn't work for you.
