Hermione is very brave, not quite as brave as Harry (who is?) but she
is very brave nevertheless. I agree, she is naturally brilliant but
she's not in Ravenclaw because intelligence is not the quality she
personally values the most. In the first book when Harry is about to
risk his life Hermione hugs him and says: "Harry you're a great
wizard, you know." Harry says "I'm not as good as you" and then
Hermione responds with incredulity "Me! Books! And cleverness! There
are more important things- friendship and bravery and- oh Harry- be
careful!"
