I always assumed it just looked silvery because ghosts are 
semi-transparent.  However even if it is unicorn blood (interesting 
point) the Baron may not have been the one who slew the unicorn.  He 
could have been slain by the slayer of the unicorn (or his/her 
associate) - possibly even while trying to DEFEND the unicorn.  
Possible?
