Apart from being a plot device to catch Harry's attention, I suspect it 
was a rhetorical question - to herself.

Do you ever find yourself saying to yourself out loud, "Now what's the 
telephone number of the bank?" or "What time did Bill say he was coming 
home?" or something similar.
