That is definitely true from Harry's point of view. We know that from 
the book. There is no need to interview the author to find that out. 
But Harry doesn't know everything. And let me ask this: Does anyone 
seriously believe that Dumbledore would have survived the potion he 
drank? I think his chances of survival were exactly zero. By doing what 
he did, Snape prevented Draco from taking the credit for Dumbledore's 
death and he prevented Harry from taking the blame for it. And he kept 
his unbreakable vow. Any outcome other than what have occured would 
have been even more disastrous. Fortunately Snape is cold-blooded 
enough to follow through with it, just as Harry was cold blooded enough 
in the cave.
