Well I would think the fact that you have to murder to create a
Horcrux would stop Dumbledore first off.
Secondly, Dumbledore has said a few times he does not fear death,
that it is just another adventure if I recall correctly.
Finally from a literary standpoint the story works much better if
Harry is on his own. We've been set up for 6 books now that DD is
the only wizard Voldy is concerned by. Now that he is removed we can
have the final showdown between Harry and Voldy next book. If DD is
still alive then that throws a pretty big wrench in the works! He's
dead Sandra, unfortunate but it had to happen! :(
