[HPforGrownups] Riddle's Bones

  In GoF book we only saw some of Riddle's Bone dust, but I always felt
  it would have been more powerful if a ghastly white grinning skull
  with patches of dried blackened skin still clinging to it came out of
  the grave and plopped into the caldron with a sickening slash. I
  suppose Rowling felt that would have been a little too powerful.

  I am inclined to think it would be too cartoonish.  But of course it is a matter of taste.
