Couple of questions after CoS reread

I always assumed that Colin simply saw the basilisk a spit second
before the basilisk saw him, and, being Colin, had instinctively
grabbed his camera to take a quick shot. There's ample evidence of
Colin's enthusiasm for photographic documentation of just about
anything he runs across. 

It is interesting that Dumbledore just happens upon the scene so
quickly, though.
