Why would Kreacher kill himself when staying alive to cause trouble
would be so much more satisfying? Well, what about if he was acting on
the instructions of the Old Mistress, Sirius's screeching-portrait
mummy? She has had his loyalty and love all along, and one shriek from
her along the lines of: 'He was the only son I had left, he would have
seen reason in the end, he shouldn't have died' will dump enough guilt
on her faithful aged retainer that he'll take a running dive through
the Veil of House Elves.

Only snag is, given Harry's power as the POV character, when is this
to happen and how are we to know?
