overlooked Gryffindor relic?

We are told over and over that Gryffindor's sword is the only known object
that can be tied to Godric Gryffindor. But I think we may have overlooked
the obvious--the Sorting Hat. We know that Godric whipped the hat off of his
head to be the Sorting Hat--this from the hat itself.

That said, is it possible that the hat could be a horcrux? We know that Tom
and Dippett were close, and I can imagine Tom spending time in the
headmaster's study, the same way that Harry has been a visitor to
Dumbledore's study.

Could it be possible that the Sorting Hat is a horcrux?
