I'm not so sure about that. They were not children in their fifth 
year. They were about 15-16. And they continued to 
behave "irresponsibly" till they were in their seventh year, that 
is, even after they became legally adults. I can recognize post-
Azkaban Sirius and adult Lupin and Pettigrew in their respective 
teen-age selves very easily. And frankly it doesn't look like 
their "values" have changed perceptively. I don't know about James, 
of course, we haven't seen him as an adult.
