I think Dumbledore brought Harry because he has his mother's eyes, and
as we learn later, Slughorn had a soft spot for Lily.

"On the other hand.."  Dumbledore knew that Slughorn knew about the
horcruxes.  Did Harry's presence remind Horace that he would be safer
at Hogwarts that out on his own?
