You got me ;). I only read the British edition and forgot about this piece
of information. No, I do not think that the editor put it there, he just
failed to cut it out.
But this is interesting enough. The only reason for Rowling to cut this
sentence is, that she would give too much information for our guesswork with
it. So, there will be someone we all believe dead still alive, right?
But Dumbledore? He is not threatened by LV, so there is no need for him to
hide that way.

Maybe Regulus Alphard Black? Some open questions concerning this suggestion,
but I won't mess up this thread.
