I read an interview with JKR in which she talked about how she cried when she wrote 
the death. Her husband (?) (who did not know WHO died) said  something to the effect 
of "well don't kill him" but she said he had to die. She'd known it for a long time but 
went along in denial until she had to write it. I'm pretty certain that DD is dead dead. 
I've often thought about killing off your characters as being something that must be 
most difficult to do. (I will be most disappointed, however, if she is ruthless enough 
to kill HP. I don't think that will happen. <crosses fingers>. )
