Actually, I think she did value courage more.  She says so to Harry when she 
talks about how "books and cleverness" don't compare to his kind of heroism, 
and I think her actions throughout the books show that she values knowledge 
used for practical aims more than knowledge for itself.  Her passions aren't 
specific areas of research but social injustice.
