Wow, that's a good point. I didn't think of that and haven't heard it mentioned. In OotP, Sirius said that Kreacher 'wasn't quite as devoted to his father as his mother' which makes me think he wasn't quite as unpleasant as she was. Perhaps he stole the horcrux as revenge for LV killing his youngest son.

JKR said that RAB being Regulus Black was a 'fine guess'but that doesn't mean it was correct, maybe just close.
