Is Dumbledore dead?

I seem to recall something about Merlin dying and rising again from 
a lake of fire.  Does anyone know anything about this?  It would 
bring more understanding to the Dumbledore discussion.  I have to 
question his death because J.K.R. repeats so many times that he 
will only be gone when no one is left who is loyal to him and Harry 
is "Dumbledore's man."
