Magpie:
In that case it is called the same thing in the US.  It was just they 
thought Sorcerer was a better word than Philosopher in the title.  I don't 
have the US version, but I would guess it's called the Philosopher's Stone 
within the actual story and not changed throughout to "Sorcerer's Stone." 
Just as the movie calls it a Philosopher's Stone even while the title is 
Sorcerer's.  I could be wrong, but that's what I've always assumed.
