I don't know, I certainly find Dumbledore, the "epitome of goodness"
to be artificial and inconsistent. I suppose it's hard to understand
the values that's supposed to represent because they are bizarre,
extreme, and frankly, imo, often reprehensible.
Now, I think the problem is that often things in the HP series aren't
supposed to represent values at all. They are supposed to represent
plot points. However, they come across sometimes as representing
values -- and thus why I think JKR is honestly taken aback by fan
reactions to certain things. Once again, as I've said before, JKR is
often a victim of the problem of three: What she thinks she's
writing, what we read, and what's actually there are three different
things, and often don't have that much resemblance to one another.
