Magpie:
I wonder if we're meant to see a parallel with the house elves.  Hermione 
hides hats all over and Ron uncovers them saying, "They ought to know what 
they're picking up."  Ron's respecting exactly the kind of personal freedom 
that Hermione prefers to work around because it's always difficult.
