I think this is the important point.  We are led to believe that Ron,
Hermione and Ginny all took some of the 'Luck' potion before the DEs
invaded Hogwarts.  Their luck did not prevent the DEs in getting in,
Draco sneaking by them, Draco (or the rest) from getting away from the
main skirmish to get up to the tower, or DDs death.  It is implied
that it may have helped them to live and not get hit by the DEs
attacks, IIRC.  But this attack was, as Steve worded it, "so
overwhelming" that 'Luck' wasn't going to help them *win*.
