Dumbledore doesn't say that Snape's remorse was because of the
Potters at all. He only says that Snape felt remorse "when he
realized how Lord Voldemort interpreted the prophecy". Some people
suggest that this means his remorse was because LV planned to kill an
infant or two of them (the prophecy infants). Even in Real Life,
hardened criminals don't care for child killers.
