Lauren:

An interesting theory. But I think he is dead. JK Rowling has
systematically killed off anyone that Harry could use as a crutch. I
think she is setting it up so the final battle with Voldemort is
Harry's own effort and not the foreplanning of some helpful adult.

It is implied in the book that Dumbledore of the Unbreakable vow. I
like to think that he gave up his life to protect Snape and Draco from
Volemorts wrath.
