can quite understand JKR's desire to keep her character for herself. Good
writing or bad writing, they have written sequels to Austen, the Brontes,
Dickens, Du Maurier, etc etc, and in the process the brainchild morphs into
something else...

Oh, I know. And they'll do it weather or not Harry lives or dies in the
canon stories.  Sometimes it bothers me to all get out and other times it
doesn't. That all depends on the amount of skill the writer handles the
characters and stoies with, although in actuality of the many non-original
author books I've read I've dumped all but one or two of them.
