I believed from Dobby and Winky that their loyalty was to the family till
death, but primarily, if I were a pureblood (especially if I were also a DE)
I would worry about my secrets being revealed if they remained with the
house I had sold and were now subject to the will of new purchasers.  I
would also be very irritated at having to start all over again with a new
house elf - Kreacher, for example, was raised into the family from birth, as
had many of his ancestors.
