You are right, Harry did not overhear Dumbledore and Snape
talking about unbreakable vows. He heard Snape saying how
hard things were for him. I am not sure if Dumbledore did
know though. When Draco was trying to kill Dumbledore,
Dumbledore said Snape had deceived Draco into thinking the
vow had been made, but Draco shouted that it had been (which
it had) so it seemed as if Dumbledore had been duped. That
is the most confusing part in the book for me.
