which is why I never understood their changing...  If Sirius really was
prepared to die for his friends, the secret would have died with him, and
the Potters would have remained safely hidden.  Peter, as you say, could
always have been expected to crack.  I had thought the secret was maybe
revealed when the keeper died, and that was the reason, but JKR has debunked
that theory.
