Well -- I got a grazy idea -- it had to do with Harry's toddler magic.
Young Harry had summoned it with his toddler-magic, and been so intent
on hiding under it that his parents saw it best to leave it with
Dumbledore -- just to keep them from worrying about Harry's
whereabouts. The way his parents dealt with it - first trying to hide
it, but it always came to Harry, then giving it to Dumbledore -- also
caused the block Harry had to work trough during his fourth year in
order to get his Firebolt when facing the Dragon...
Once Harry finds out, he might be able to summon things he needs in
the same way. Didn't he leave his invisibility cloak at Hogwarts at
the end of book 6? The thing is, how is Harry to learn about it?
Through a Pensieve of Albus Dumbledore, maybe? It'd be important due
to revealing Harry's power -- bit like that Snake-in-zoo-incident...
except that this power is HARRY'S.
