CS Lewis once said that parents who tried to insulate their children from
stories that had cruel and frightening elements were doing them a disservice;
that children growing up in a world that could produce Auschwitz and the KGB are
hardly prepared for life by being screened from ogres and dragons in
imagination.
JRR Tolkein said that 'in life children will meet cruel enemies; let them at
least have heard of brave heroes."
In short, I really don't see that the WW and the RW are all that different when
you strip away the outward flourishes.
