Cassy:
Sorry for snipping the post so heavily, it's just I
wanted to talk about the father, not the son. Barty
Sr. plans to celebrate his son's exam results with the
prominent wizarding family, the one of future Minister
for Magic. He might as well want to use his son's
academic achievements as a ground to show off, to win
some political points and to please his vanily. It's a
bit like having a label "my son goes to Harvard" on a
bamper. Also a way to improve one's image - "I brought
up such a clever student". Note, that Crouch Sr.
doesn't mention that the hero of the occasion would
actually take part in this event. He doesn't celebrate
by spending time with his boy.
