Karkaroff didn't quit the DEs on moral grounds or because he regretted
doing evil, as it appears that Severus and Regulus did. He was a
coward who gave names of fellow DEs to get out of Azkaban. Like
Wormtail, all he valued was his own skin. So, yes, his case is different.
But what I'm looking for is canon evidence that Barty Jr. was innocent
of torturing the Longbottoms. Given his behavior in the classroom, his
prolonged Crucio of the spider and his use of that Crucio specifically
to upset Neville so that he could take him to his office and give him
the book on magical water plants to help Harry survive the second
task, I can't believe that he didn't 1) enjoy inflicting pain on both
the spider (remember Bellatrix's words: "You have to enjoy it") and on
Neville and 2) participate in the Crucioing of the Longbottoms in the
first place.
Carol, happy that she and Magpie agree on Barty Jr.'s guilt
