What turned Snape (Was: JKR site update SPOILERS)

Dumbledore doesn't say that Snape turned because LV targeted the 
Potters.  He says that Snape felt remorse and returned when he realized 
how LV interpreted the prophecy.  Not the same thing.  The Potters are 
not even mentioned.  This leaves open the possibility that Snape felt 
remorse because LV was going to kill an infant.  Some of the worst 
killers on earth do not take kindly to child-killing.
