There have been several conjectures concerning Crookshanks being an 
animagus, and who he could actually be.

I was sure of it myself  - a year or two ago - as a result of 
Crookshanks' unusual behavior in PoA. I was even considering developing 
a list of possibilities... until I read a quote in which JKR denied 
this conjecture.  Her explanation for the cat's extraordinary behavior 
is that he is half-kneazle.

I took JKR at her word and tore up my list.
