But the adult child does not undergo a brainwashing in which her 
memories of her family are wiped clean. She has the choice of 
whether to contact her family or not. Besides, this scenario does 
nothing to protect the parents from the killer's vengence. 

Witness protection is what should have been offered to the Grangers.
