  Thanks for the reply! I agree that JKR's story is remarkable and profound, and I often ignore the threads that have to do with little things like age, moon cycles, and the such. I just like to have a basic understanding of who, where, and how as the background for the more in depth and philosophical stuff. So, it helps me to assume M and A are approx. 8 years older than Lily, James, Snape and the others. I can file that information away and just know its there. And that helps me to be able to move on to other (more interesting)  things!
