It makes a lot of sense, however. Something that was discovered by stage 
magicians in the 20th century is that, in the context of a play, one way 
of coming up with REALLY amazing feats is to make the character who is 
supposed to be your adversary your confederate. JKR has already done 
this, by maneuvering one of the people trying to hide Sirius the man in 
charge of finding him.
