Reply - I am of the mind that Dumbledore knew he was dying. The one thing that locked this theory up was re-reading the 6th book. I hadn't thought about it before but in the beginning when DD comes to pick up Harry, the speech he gives the Dursleys was very final. It was almost as if he knew he had to ensure Harry would be able to come back after 6th year and he knew that he would not be around that next summer to make sure it happens. In the past, DD never comes out and gives future requests to the Dursleys. He reminds Petunia once in fifth year. But then he is only dealing with matters as they arise. This scene in the sixth book seems like preparation to me. As if he knew he wasn't gonna make it. I am still on the fence about Snape though I am leaning towards him being on DD's side.

Just my opinion. Can't wait until I get my hands on the book!
